Bio:Hallo! I am George, which is not my official name, but a commonly used one. Once upon a time I'd made this journal strictly for slapping up bits and bats of writing, but that got old (not the writing, the strictness), and so, finally, I think I'll make some personal appearances. Funtimes.

Some tidbits for the curious:

Let's see...I just graduated college with my BA...I am an inveterate Beatles fan and slasher...I had a passionate affair with the Monkees, which has lately cooled into a steady friendship...I also have a newfound and rather unhealthy obsession with anime, though I'm hoping to recover my life from it soon. Oh, and I am a writer.

Also, as a note for the unaware, many (as in, most) of my fanfics involve slash, that is, gay man-sex, and or gay relationships. If you no like, you no read. A simple concept, no? For those who love John and Paul (and you know who you are) check out [info]jp_archive for my works and those of many other excellent authors. And for the newest thingies by me, [info]magicaltrevor, and [info]akutenshi_akira, check out [info]no_boyz_aloud for slashirrific stuff!

A Note on Slash, or Why I Love It So:

In any fandom, in any fanfic universe, het pairings have been flogged to death, revived, and flogged back to death. The redundancy is terrifying, and worse, boring. Slash, on the other hand, is still something of a taboo genre (though growing ever-less so as the Internet continues to expand) and therefore, though flogged, is not yet dead. And while hopeless romantics (like me) will never completely tire of the eternally-fascinating world of human (or non-human) relationships, gay relationships are rarely addressed, or given the social support and wordless legitimacy given to however many millions of bodice busting romance novels with the heroine falling out of her dress while draped over the rippling, muscled arm of Fabio. And frankly, that pisses me off. Because I love my male* characters. And I love for them to be loved. And I fail to see why they can't love each other but are instead continuously forced into quick and often groundless relationships with the nearest female whose only visible purpose in the story is to be the object (and I mean OBJECT) of the male characters' affections (lusts, emotional neediness, etc).

What I'm saying, I suppose, is that such a tactic, creating sudden het relationships out of the air for fear that a reader might construe a character as gay, is (as well as incredibly homophobic) shabby, shoddy, inexcusable writing. We need character development! Motivation! Don't toss random characters together for no more reason than you had to up the romance in the story, and the only halfway believable romantic tension happened to be between two characters of the same sex.

*I say male because I personally write gay men more often than gay women; it is simply where my heart lies. However, the same goes for those female characters who, after having shown up the guys and accomplished whatever dire thing lay before them, suddenly settle down with random men and become meek little wives. Tolkien, how could you?
